We people in the western world have freedom to the point of hurting others. We have global trade beyond the point of hurting the local economies. We have economical systems most of the people agree are a million miles away of meeting our expectations. Our world is as sustainable as 1 kind of bacteria in a Petri dish. We are the skin disease of earth. Instead of living in harmony we are going on each others nerves. It is known what aspects of our way of life needs to be changed but the fact remains that changes do not happen. We stumbled into this millennium and we we stumble in the same way into the next century. I will be not there any more but my family will be still there.
I envy many original and nature based societies. Harmony appears to exist with them at very different kind of scale. If I ignore the negative aspects, what remains is deep respect.
Is it our freedom we bought with the price of harmony? In the western world harmony is a luxury and an expensive good. Many people can not afford it just like this. What is left is a for me unreal world. Simple things to relax cost money or need things to have it. For instance mobility, having a car costs money and the bus or train is also not really for free. Most people do not live close to the “cheap” relaxation zone calls forest. And anyway many areas in our world don’t have much forest left. People with computers have screen savers or desktop pictures with displayed nature. Others have wall paper with photos of palm trees or so. Many people watch TV and escape in worlds of dreams and impossible realities.
