Perception of truth in our modern world
After a company paid health check I am proud of my eyes. I got 1.5 on both of them. That is pretty good and above average. Yes, I am the man. Well, honestly, I started thinking of this kind of testing.
Could it be that this test may be false or untrue? It is pretty simple. You look into a machine and indicate with a joystick the direction of where a circle has an open side.
First of all, there may be the gambler. If 100 people do this test and without being able to actually “see” the correct side, some will be lucky and get a higher score. The test does several repeats of each “level” and therefore most of the gamblers will fail. But some will not fail. So the test may be false for a few lucky gamblers. That much is to say about having a better result as it really is. Well, may be I am a gambler. I don’t really know. I only know that I was not gambling on purpose. Now, I find a path to another aspect of this.
The test may show a less good and untrue result for those which don’t have much of what I have: self-confidence.
A person with the self perceived image of not being so good is much more likely to deliver a untrue result as the gambler. How many “1.5 people” are out there which’s test resulted to a 1.0?
The test appears to be very scientific and modern. Unfortunately, the test is not perfect. Or let me say, not as perfect as it could be.
First of all, due to time limits, the test is not long enough to rule the gamblers out.
Secondly, the psychological aspect is not covered as much as it could be. As I learnt at work: awareness is almost everything. The person being tested may be simply not aware of this aspect. Already a little and short note could improve the results of some of those without proper self-confidence.
What really makes me stumble: how many others areas in our modern life have a perceived safe and proper method and process of something, where in actual life is it not the case. Or so be fully correct, not as much as it could be.
I try to find more areas in life where this is the case….
